Monty Panesar Picks The Best Batsman Between Virat Kohli And Steve Smith
There has always been a debate over the best batsman between Steve Smith and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Though there are many experts, who found it tough to give an answer, the former spinner of England Monty Panesar has got an interesting answer. He rated both as a world-class batsman but gave a clear-cut answer.
India skipper Kohli hits centuries like he is taking a walk in the park and while not many thought that Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries would get overtaken anytime soon. On the other hand, Steve Smith is doing incredible works in Test format of the game. He knocked runs for fun in the recently concluded Ashes series.
It was a sensational series for Steve Smith. He went back to pavilion with massive run-tallies to his name whenever he walked to the middle to face England bowling attack. The recent double century certainly proved that he is one of the greatest batsmen in the world. Meanwhile, Monty Panesar lets his opinion out on comparisons.
Steve Smith is the best Test batsman – Monty Panesar
Panesar quoted that Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world when it comes to across the formats. Monty said that he would vote for Virat Kohli on any day if the topic belongs to all formats of the game. However, he chose Steve Smith when it comes to the Test format of the game.
“Steve Smith is a better Test batsman than Virat Kohli. But if you take an overall package, especially limited-overs, Virat stands out. He is overall a world-class batsman. Virat is the best batsman in the world. Smith is the best Test batsman in the world,” Monty Panesar said to Times of India.
Virat Kohli can break Sachin Tendulkar record:
Further, Monty Panesar quoted that Virat Kohli has got every chance to overhaul the record centuries registered by Sachin Tendulkar during his tenure in ODI and Test formats of the game. He believes Virat Kohli would break the record for sure.
“Virat (Kohli) has a better chance of breaking his (Sachin’s) Test centuries record (51 Test centuries). The way he is batting and the form he is in, he will go on and break both the ODI and Test centuries records. He has the ability to make more than 100 centuries,” he said.
