South Africa have made their intentions clear that they are here to win upon landing in India on September 10 (Tuesday). They have a young squad with new skipper Quinton de Kock for the three-match T20I series. Interim Director Enoch Nkwe said that they are looking to build a strong squad for the future.

Meanwhile, this will be South Africa’s first taste at international cricket since their humiliating exit from the ICC World Cup 2019. They were one of the first teams to bow out of the competition. The Proteas will look to bounce off the blocks and give India a tough fight.

They will miss their incumbent skipper Faf du Plessis, who hasn’t travelled with the squad. He will join the whole squad ahead of the Test series. Interim Director of the South Africa team, Enoch Nkwe agreed that du Plessis has been a great servant for South Africa but also mentioned that it is high time they infuse fresh blood in the team.

“We know where Faf stands as a captain and as a player. He has done great things for SA cricket. But we also need to look at what future looks like and we strongly believe in Quinton, who is going to be leading the team going forward,” Nkwe told reporters.

Enoch Nkwe also hailed that new T20I skipper Quinton de Kock. The wicket-keeper batsman has been at the scheme of things for quite some time now and needs to shoulder more responsibilities for the side. Nkwe also made their focus clear as South Africa will hope to lay a strong foundation for the upcoming World T20.

“We have a good leader and it’s an opportunity to start building for the future. It’s the start of a new chapter and focus will be the coming series against India. We would be looking to lay a good foundation going into the T20 World Cup next year in Australia,” he concluded.
