Pollard recently made his comeback to the T20I side for the series against India. He shone with the bat in the series, scoring 115 runs in three matches. He stood up for West Indies in tough situations but could not lead the team to victory as the hosts lost all the three T20Is.

In ODIs, his last appearance in this format came against Pakistan in 2016. The right-handed batsman, along with other seniors, was dropped from the ODI squad just a few months ahead of World Cup 2015 and did not make it to the squad as well. Holder was then handed leadership duties. He (Holder) also led the team in the 2019 World Cup. Pollard was one of the standby players for the tournament and did not make it to the squad.

He is currently leading Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League 2019 after their regular captain Dwayne Bravo was ruled out due to a finger injury.

If West Indies ring changes, Pollard being appointed as T20I captain will surely be a good move considering his recent form but in ODIs, the update will come as a big surprise. West Indies’ next ODI assignment come against Afghanistan in India. A decision regarding it is expected to be made soon.

Under Holder, West Indies have played 86 ODIs in which they have registered just 24 wins with a winning percentage of 31.25. They have lost 54 ODIs under Holder.

Pollard, who is likely to succeed Holder as ODI captain, has also led WI in two ODIs. West Indies had won one ODI while they lost the other ODI.

Under Brathwaite, West Indies have played 30 T20Is in which they have won 11 and lost 17 T20Is. He had taken over as WI’s T20I after the departure of Darren Sammy. Unlike ODIs, Pollard has never led West Indies in the shortest format of the game.
