The last few days are all about Steve Smith on headlines in the cricketing world. He just made the fans to clap for him on a consistent basis during his stay at the crease. His sensational tallies have not only made him take his number 1 rank back from Virat Kohli but also surpassed him in an illustrious scoring chart.

Steve Smith number one Test batsman:

Recently, Australia’s run-machine Steve Smith moved past India captain Virat Kohli to reclaim the No.1 Test batsman. Kohli scored 76 in the first innings of India’s 2nd Test against West Indies in Jamaica but was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the second innings.

Steve Smith was banned for a year over the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018 but he made a sensational return with twin hundreds in the first Ashes Test in Birmingham. He followed that up with a classy 92 at Lord’s before being ruled out after a blow on the neck.

Following that, Steve Smith registered a fantastic double century to show his class to England bowlers. Smith is having a fairytale Ashes series, already accumulating 671 runs, including a double century at a staggering average of 134.20. Smith was in tremendous touch in the first innings of the Test match at Old Trafford as he slammed 211 and then, he followed it up with a gritty 82 in the second innings.

Smith is third in the list of a batsman with most number of runs after three matches in a Test series. The former Australia skipper is well ahead of Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf and Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli while the list is topped by England legend Graham Gooch and West Indies’ Brian Lara.

Speaking of the victory, Steve Smith said It feels amazing to know the urn is coming home. I’ve been here a few times when things haven’t gone our way. This was always one to tick off my bucket list. It’s extremely satisfying.”

Here is the list:

752 Graham Gooch vs India, 1990

688 Brian Lara vs Sri Lanka, 2001-02

671 Steve Smith vs England, 2019
