Rishabh Pant Needs To Work, To Better His Game – Virender Sehwag
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag believes Rishabh Pant is still a work-in-progress player. Sehwag stated the prodigy Pant needs to work hard to better his game. Pant has grabbed his opportunities in the Test fold whereas he is yet to come up with a big score in white-ball version. However, Pant can be reckless in his shot-making and he needs to work on his temperament.
Meanwhile, the southpaw batsman could not deliver the goods in the first Test match against West Indies. The left-hander could only score 24 and seven runs in both of the innings.
Pant has a lot of talent and his batting style is quite similar to Virender Sehwag. Sehwag loved to hit the ground running during his playing days and Pant has also followed the same footsteps as he is an aggressive batsman.
“Pant is an extremely talented cricketer with huge potential. It will be important that he is groomed well,” Sehwag told PTI.
“And now that he has been assured some quality time in the team it is important that he makes the best use of the opportunity and works to better his game and develop as a cricketer,” he added.
Pant has a bright future ahead of him and it is crucial that he grabs his opportunity with both hands. The wicket-keeper batsman is backed by the team management as well the selectors and it is time that he makes it count.
On the other hand, India commenced their Test championship campaign in style as they trounced Windies by 318 runs. Sehwag believes that the team has the players to go all the way but they need to settle the team combinations.
Sehwag said: “Two years is a long time. Yes, the team is in good hands. I wish Ravi Shastri all the luck for his second innings and Virat Kohli all the very best.
“We have good bench strength, quality fast bowlers and spinning prospects. We need to now settle the team combinations,” Sehwag added.
India has been one of the most consistent teams and they would like to continue the good show going. The second and final Test match against West Indies will begin from 30th August at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
