Virender Sehwag Speaks On S Sreesanth’s Plans Of Comeback, Takes Hilarious Dig At Mohammad Amir

Moments after BCCI cut short his ban, S Sreesanth has made it clear that he wants to don Team India jersey once again. The BCCI had imposed a life ban on S Sreesanth and two other Rajasthan Royals players for their alleged roles in 2013 spot-fixing scandal. However, Sreesanth’s ban was reduced to 7 years by the BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain.

The Supreme Court had earlier in the year set aside the life ban imposed by BCCI disciplinary committee. The court had also asked the Board Ombudsman to reconsider within three months, the quantum of punishment. And as soon as Jain gave his verdict, S Sreesanth said that he wants to finish his career with 100 Test wickets.

Sreesanth’s former India teammate and ex-India opener Virender Sehwag has now spoken on the pacer’s statement. The legendary batsman said that he was happy for the bowler. At the same time, he also said that Sreesanth would have to play domestic cricket in order to harbour any hopes to play international cricket.

“He has to play domestic cricket first,” Virender Sehwag said in an event in New Delhi.

When asked about Mohammad Amir and how he made a comeback to international cricket immediately after his ban was lifted, the former Indian opener in his own quirky way said: “Pakistan me kuch bhi hota hai.”

Sreesanth, meanwhile, is taking inspiration from tennis star Leander Paes and former teammate Ashish Nehra as he eyes comeback to Indian team.

“I am a huge fan of Leander Paes to start with. For his age and fitness, he is showing the way (even) right now. So I should not give up. Even at 38, Ashish Nehra played the World T20 [2016]. I am only 36. So I still have another year to make the comeback. I don’t think age is a factor,” Sreesanth told ESPNCricinfo.

Before the ban, he represented India in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals, claiming 169 wickets across formats.
