Kapil Dev-Headed CAC Writes To COA, Wants To Contribute In Appointment Of Ravi Shastri’s Coaching Staff: Report

The Kapil Dev-headed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has written to the Committee of Administrators (COA) to be a part process for the appointment of the other members of support staff, a report in IANS suggests. It comes a day after Kapil Dev had said that the CAC should be part of the process wherein the other members of support staff will be appointed.

“Yes, our opinion should be there. If you ask me, we have (sent) a recommendation to the board about the selection process of the support staff as well. It is not right, if we are not doing that job also. We told them that we would like to be part of the process that finalises the appointment,” he had said on Friday at BCCI office, where CAC appointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach for another two years.

As per the BCCI’s constitution, the MSK Prasad-led five-member selection panel will take a call on other members of the support staff. This means that it is unlikely that CAC will be asked to do the job. However, they might be consulted but the selection committee is only expected to take a final call on the matter.

The board has not put an official word regarding it yet and it remains to be seen if CAC’s views are taken into consideration while appointing Shastri’s support staff.

The recruitments process will start on August 19, which will see shortlisted candidates being interviewed for the various posts.

In the batting department, a change is on the cards and Sanjay Bangar could be replaced by Vikram Rathour, who is favourite to be appointed as the batting coach. Pravin Amre is a strong candidate on the list as well.

In the bowling department, a change is unlikely to happen. Bharat Arun, who made his comeback to the backroom staff in 2017, should keep his job on the basis of results. India have one of the best pace attacks in world cricket, especially in the longest format of the game.

R Sridhar, the fielding coach, will have a tough race against Jonty Rhodes. He would have retained his job but since Rhodes is also in the race, there is no way that Sridhar is the clear favourite.

Rhodes was the best fielder of his time and is also regarded as one of the best coaches. Abhay Sharma, the former India fielding coach, is the third shortlisted candidate.

Team India will have a new trainer and physio. Shankar Basu (trainer) and Patrick Farhat left (physio) left their positions after the end of World Cup 2019.
