After a washout in the first ODI between West Indies and India at Guyana, both teams will look to take a crucial lead in the second game in Trinidad. India have got off to a great start after losing the early wicket of Shikhar Dhawan after elected to bat first. Meanwhile, West Indies stalwart Chris Gayle achieved a massive milestone during the second ODI.

Gayle plays his 300 ODIs for West Indies

Virat Kohli went with an unchanged XI in the second ODI while Jason Holder had to make a forced change. Unfit Fabian Allen had to sit out while fast bowler Oshane Thomas made a comeback to the playing XI. West Indies got a breakthrough in the first over of the match removing Shikhar Dhawan, whose poor run with the bat continues. It was a controversial call as Jason Holder asked for the review after the stipulated 15 seconds. Despite that, on-field umpire Nijel Llong reviewed the decision which turned his original verdict of not out.

Since then, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli revived India’s innings. While Rohit took a cautious approach, Kohli was in his strides from the word go. He dominated the bowlers and looked flawless while notching in easy boundaries as India crossed the 50-run mark convincingly.

Meanwhile, West Indies legend Chris Gayle became the first cricketer from his country to play 300 ODIs. The southpaw played 297 for his country while the other three came for the World XI. In the last match, he overcame Brian Lara’s (295) record of most ODIs for the Caribbeans. Shivnarine Chanderpaul (268), Desmond Haynes (238), and Carl Hooper (227) completes the top five list of most ODIs for the team from the Caribbean Islands.
