The marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup did not quite live up to the expectations. While India put up a commendable performance with both bat and ball, Pakistan failed to so. Consequently, the game turned out to be a lopsided contest as India thrashed Pakistan. The defeat eventually made a big difference as Pakistan failed to make it to the semifinal due to net run-rate.

Despite winning the toss, Pakistan never looked at ease against India as they lost the game by 89 runs. India piled up a mammoth total of 336 for 5 after being asked to bat first. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul laid the foundation for the big total by adding 136 runs for the first wicket. Rohit and Kohli then added 98 runs for the second wicket as India headed towards the huge total. Rohit was the top-scorer with 140 while Rahul and Kohli scored 57 and 77 respectively.
