ICC World Cup 2019: What Happens If The First Semifinal Gets Into Reserve Day?
The ongoing first semifinal of the World Cup between India and New Zealand is hampered by the rain. New Zealand scored 211 runs and lost five wickets in 46.1 overs before the rain intervened. Thus, the match is under the threat of getting into reserve day. In fact, if the match will go into the reserve day, the match will begin from the same situation and the game would not be played again from the beginning.
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat first. The Kiwis could not get off to a good start as they lost the early wicket of Martin Guptill. The right-hander continued his dismal form going as he was dismissed for 14-ball one run after edging Jasprit Bumrah to Virat Kohli, at second slip.
India is in a commanding position.
Henry Nicholls and Kane Williamson then added 68 runs for the third wicket before Ravindra Jadeja was able to find the gulf between bat and pad of the southpaw batsman.
Nicholls scored 28 runs from 51 balls with the help of two fours. On the other hand, Kane Williamson was once again rock solid in the defence as he batted at the top of his game. However, Williamson could not get the momentum going forward in the innings. The right-hander scored six fours in his knock and scored a fine knock of 67 runs from 95 balls.
On the other hand, the Indian bowlers didn’t let the New Zealand batsmen off the hook as they bowled a tight line and length. Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were right on the money in the first ten overs as they didn’t gave any room to the New Zealand batsmen.
India has put their noses ahead and they would fancy to chase the revised target of 237 in 46 overs. However, if no further play is possible, the match will begin from the same situation tomorrow.
If there is still no result on the scheduled match day, play will continue on the Reserve Day, using the same start time and hours of play as the scheduled match day.
