Shikhar Dhawan Likely To Make Comeback In England Game

Shikhar Dhawan looks set to make his comeback to action during the huge clash against hosts England in the ongoing World Cup.  The left-handed batsman is currently sidelined with a hairline fracture to his thumb. Dhawan had suffered the injury during the win over Australia last Sunday. He was hit on the left thumb by Pat Cummins.

Dhawan had gone on to score a fine century in the 36-run win but did not come out to field. Ravindra Jadeja had fielded for him throughout the match. Scans then revealed  hairline fracture, raising apprehensions that Dhawan might get ruled out of the tournament. However, the Indian team-management decided to keep their star opener under observation. The team has also called Rishabh Pant as cover for Dhawan.

Dhawan is now expected to be fit for the clash against England on June 30. During his absence from the cricket field, he will miss the games against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and New Zealand. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Dhawan had travelled to Leeds to consult specialists, where the fracture was ascertained.

The Indian selectors have received a positive signal from the medical team that Dhawan is likely to be fit to play in the latter half of the tournament, closer to the June 30 match against hosts England. This is the reason why the team-management has kept Dhawan under observation instead of naming a replacement for him straightaway. India will still have three more league games after the England clash and the next stage if they qualify.

India will definitely be desperate to see Dhawan recovering as quickly as possible. Dhawan is not only in good form at the moment but has also a fantastic track record in the ICC tournaments. Dhawan was the top score in the last two Champions Trophy held in England. He was also India’s top run-scorer at the last World Cup.
