Gautam Gambhir scored 97 runs while Dhoni remained unbeaten 91 runs to win for India by six wickets. Speaking about the knock, Gambhir said that he doesn’t regret missing out on that century. He revealed that they focused on winning the title and is happy to contribute to the victory.
“Not at all. Our aim was to win the Cup and I wanted to contribute heavily. I did and 97 is much better than a small score. Even today I don’t regret not getting those three runs,” Gambhir said to TOI.
Furthermore, Gautam Gambhir said that he focused on consolidating the innings as he came to bat as India lost their first wicket for no runs. He and Virat Kohli steadied the innings before skipper MS Dhoni came and won the final at the Wankhede Stadium after a gap of 28 years.
Virat Kohli & Co will hope to repeat when they begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa at Southampton.
