ICC World Cup 2019: Team Management’s Trust and Belief Gives You Extra Motivation – Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar’s inclusion in the squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 starting from May 30 in England and Wales rang a few eyeballs. New to international cricket, many thought Ambati Rayudu to be in the plane to England, but the selectors went for Shankar’s three-dimensional ability. And now it is payback time for the all-rounder.
Management’s trust have motivated me: Shankar
Vijay Shankar burst onto the scene during the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka when the management decided to rest Hardik Pandya. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder had an awful time, but the management persisted with him to make him ready as the second all-rounder. However, only in the recent T20I series against New Zealand, the management decided to promote Shankar at the top order where he did reasonably well. And after repeated failures from Ambati Rayudu, there was a strong case for Shankar which eventually got him the place in the World Cup-bound squad.

Speaking to IANS, Vijay Shankar said that it was a life lesson and one that made him a stronger human being who realised the importance of enjoying the moment and not putting too much pressure on himself on the cricket field. He also added that the trust and belief shown by the management have worked wonders for him. Shankar also admitted that he is ready to adapt to conditions and situations.
“I had a decent run when I batted at No.3 in the T20 series in New Zealand. The most important thing is that the team management has shown trust in me and believes I can do the job. That gives you extra motivation. The need of the team is my priority and I am always ready to adapt to situations and conditions,” Shankar said.
In conclusion, Vijay Shankar said that he is also working on his bowling to contribute more to that department. He also sounded confident to do well when India begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa at Southampton.
