The Indian National Cricket Team have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 on April 15. They made a few surprise calls which created a countrywide stir. Among all, the inclusion of only three specialist pacers have been debated the most. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir also echoed the same lines saying that the Men in Blues will tour with one fast bowler short.

Meanwhile, the selectors have picked Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the three specialists fast bowler. Besides, Hardik Pandya will don the role of the fourth seamer while Vijay Shankar will chip in with few overs when necessary. The Indian bowling have done exceptionally well in the last 18 months picking wickets all over the globe. Many have tipped it to be India’s best bowling attack ever for the World Cup.

However, Gautam Gambhir feels Virat Kohli & Co are one fast bowler short. The cricketer turned politician also added that the three main pacers will require support in these long tournaments which will make the difference. He also seemed concerned with too much dependency on Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar as the alternate seamers.

“I feel Indian team lacks one more quality fast bowler. (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami and Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) need more support. You may argue that India has two fast bowling all-rounders in Hardik (Pandya) and Vijay Shankar but I am not convinced. In the end, it boils down to getting the team combination right and sticking to it,” Gambhir said.

Furthermore, Gautam Gambhir also added that the upcoming marquee event will be a well-contested tournament with many teams in contention to win the title. He also backed ICC to stick with this format in the future which Gambhir feels will help to give real world champions.

In conclusion, Gautam Gambhir picked Australia, England and New Zealand along with India as the teams to watch out for.
