England and Wales will host the 12th edition of the tournament starting from May 30. With the excitement slowly slowly gripping in, former cricketer and pundits have started their prediction, and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is the latest addition to it.

Many have tipped England and Indian National Cricket team as the top two contenders. These two teams have been consistent over the last two years and deserve to lift the trophy at the Lords. However, the World Cup is a different ball game altogether, and we have witnessed many big teams slipping down. With almost a month to go, Sourav Ganguly feels India and England along with Australia and Pakistan as the four semifinalists for the event. He also added the men in blues are one of the contenders to lift the trophy.

Sourav Ganguly also feels that the current round-robin format will be one of the most keenly contested competition. He also added that the best team would reach the top four after playing against all the other team. Ganguly also noted that no team could be taken lightly as every team has the potential to beat any side on a given day.

It’s going to be one of the most keenly contested World Cups. Indian team is so strong that in any tournament they will be favourites. This World Cup will probably be the best format. The best four teams will reach the semi-finals playing all the teams. There are no easy teams,” Ganguly added.

In conclusion, Sourav Ganguly said that there is nothing to worry about Kuldeep Yadav’s off-form. Ganguly seemed confident that Kuldeep would return to form and pick wickets in the World Cup. So far, the young spinner has picked only nine wickets from four games and eventually the management dropped him from the side.

He will get wickets in the World Cup, don’t worry. He’s a superb bowler,” Ganguly concluded.

India will begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
