Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and coach Mickey Arthur have confirmed pacer Mohammed Amir will audition for his World Cup berth in the upcoming five-match ODI series against England. Mohammed Amir, who hasn’t been in the best of forms in the recent past could not break into Pakistan preliminary World Cup squad, which was announced a couple of days ago.

Thus, Amir will like to bowl at the top of his game in the upcoming series against England. Pakistan and England will take on each other in one T20I and five One Day Internationals. The one and only T20I will take place on 5th May whereas the first ODI will be played on 8th May.

Amir still has a chance.

Consequently, Mohammed Amir will have his chance to prove his mettle for the place in the World Cup squad. Amir hasn’t been in good form and he would like to turn the tables in the upcoming series.

“Amir has an opportunity in the England series [to make the final cut],” Sarfaraz said at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. “He has been working hard here and has shown that in his bowling in the training camp. In the practice match yesterday, he looked good while bowling. We will try to provide him an opportunity in England so he can perform.

“It will be a good competition amongst our pacers. We have taken six fast-bowlers so we can rotate and not put any of them under pressure.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Amir’s form has taken a downward swing. In the last two years, Amir has scalped five wickets at an average of 92 in the 101 overs he has bowled for the team. In fact, it is noted that he has tried to bowl cross-seamed and hasn’t backed his natural skills of swing.

“He is running well and his attitude has been outstanding,” said Arthur of Amir. “He’s been brilliant in the last couple of weeks and he will have opportunities in England to show us he still deserves a spot in the World Cup squad.”

Mohammed Amir will look to make a solid comeback into the team. He will need to come up with special performances if he wants to make the cut into Pakistan’s World Cup squad.
