Jason Roy Suffers Injury Scare Ahead Of The World Cup
Just a handful of days after Alex Hales took an indefinite break from cricket, England’s World Cup preparations suffered another blow. Their star opener Jason Roy suffered an injury scare while playing in the ongoing domestic one-day competition. The hard-hitting batsman retired hurt with a back spasm while playing for Surrey against Essex in the Royal London One-Day Cup, giving England another headache before the World Cup.
Roy has been troubled by several injuries in recent times. Earlier this season, he had suffered a hamstring injury during the County Championship match against Essex which dashed his hopes of staking his claim for a place in the England Test side. But fortunately, he recovered in time for the one-day games. He made his comeback in Surrey’s loss to Gloucestershire. Surrey were all out for just 88 in that game.
The game against Essex was his his third game after recovering. He was batting on 16 off 12 balls including three fours before he pulled up and received treatment from the physio on the field. The right-hander attempted to continue but soon decided to walk off the field. As per reports, it was first thought that he had gone down with a recurrence of his hamstring injury before it was later confirmed that is was a case of back spasm.
RETIRED HURT: Will Jacks replaces Jason Roy. The England opener can still return later in the innings.

Roy is likely to resume his batting soon. England will be desperate that Roy does not suffer any injury as they look to win their first-ever World Cup. Roy has been one of England’ most impressive performers in the last couple of years or so. Since the start of 2018 he has scored 1019 runs at an average of 42.46, including four centuries.
Last week, Alex Hales had taken an indefinite break from the game.
The right-handed batsman did not feature in Nottinghamshire’s opening Royal London Cup fixture against Lancashire on Friday. The club later confirmed that ‘no timetable has been set for his return’. Both Hales and Roy are a part of England’s 15-man squad for the World Cup.
