Indian National Cricket team’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has sought permission from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play County Cricket in England. If permitted, Rahane will feature for Hampshire in the months of May, June and July. It will be a perfect platform to fine-tune his skills ahead of the Test Championship.

Ajinkya Rahane has forwarded a letter seeking a NOC to the board. Besides, he has also sent a copy of the same to the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators. In the letter, the Mumbai cricketer has asked for permission from the apex body to play for Hampshire in four-day matches. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has forwarded the letter to the COA.

Rahane to play County Cricket

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane will be out of action after the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concludes. He is not in the ICC World Cup squad that will tour England and Wales for the marquee event. As a result, he will get a handful of time to prepare for the two-match Test series against Windies right after the World Cup.

A BCCI official agreed to the same and said there is no reason they BCCI won’t give Ajinkya Rahane the permission to play County Cricket. He also drew examples from the past when BCCI granted NOC to Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli to play County Cricket. Moreover, he was of the opinion that it will actually help Rahane to be in the right shape for the Test series against Windies.

There is no reason why Rahane wouldn’t be granted permission as the likes of Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara were also given the go-ahead. Also, Rahane isn’t a part of the World Cup team, so he won’t have any international commitment at that time. He wants to play four-day games and that should actually help him when he returns to play Test cricket for India after the showpiece event gets over in England and Wales,” the official said to IANS.
