Indian National Cricket team skipper Virat Kohli has enjoyed massive success at the helm of the team in the last two years. The presence of former skipper MS Dhoni has been an enormous benefit for Kohli who has often tried to pick the brains of the former. Both the cricketers share a great camaraderie and have time and again praised each other.

With the ICC World Cup approaching, Virat Kohli will want his senior statesman to be in his pick as men in blues are eyeing their third title when the tournament commences in England on May 30. MS Dhoni has been an influential figure behind the stumps guiding the young spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Both of them have benefitted from the game-reading of Dhoni and hailed his skills. Also, the Jharkhand-born cricketer has often come up to Kohli and gave his suggestion regarding the field placements.

We have a lot of mutual respect

Hailing MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli said that he is one guy who understands the game better than everybody. The talismanic run-scorer also added that he is fortunate to have someone of his stature in his team from behind the wicket. He also revealed that he wouldn’t shy away from picking the brains of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma during crucial junctures in the upcoming World Cup.

He (MS Dhoni) is one person who knows the game inside out, who understands the game from ball 1 to ball 300 on the field,” Virat Kohli told India Today. “I won’t say it is a luxury to have him but I am fortunate to have a mind like that from behind the stumps. At the end of the day, I want to be involved in strategy with the team management with Mahi bhai and Rohit (Sharma),” he added.

Virat Kohli also said that they have a lot of mutual respect and it is sad to see how people are going after MS Dhoni.

Dhoni persisted with me at no 3: Kohli

Virat Kohli, who will be playing his third World Cup, said that loyalty matters for him the most. Kohli made his debut in the Indian team under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The veteran cricketer showed trust in him giving him enough opportunities at no 3 to seal the berth and be what he is today. Kohli said that the backing Dhoni gave in the initial stages played an important role in his career.

For me, loyalty matters the most. When I walked into the team he had the option of trying someone else after a few games,” Kohli said. “Although I grabbed my chances, for me to get that kind of backing, it was very crucial for me. Also, he gave me an opportunity to bat at No.3 because not many youngsters get to play at No.3,” Kohli concluded.
