ICC World Cup 2019: Bangladesh Announce 15-Man Squad

ICC World Cup 2019: Bangladesh Announce 15-Man Squad

Bangladesh, on Tuesday, became the fourth team to announce their 15-man World Cup squad. New Zealand were the first team to announce the squad while India and Australia named their teams on Monday (April 15). The Tigers have picked fast-bowler Abu Jayed as they look to make a mark in the global event. Jayed, who is yet to make his ODI debut, had made a big impression with the ball during the Tests in New Zealand last month.

Jayed has so far played 5 Tests and three T20Is, picking up a total of 15 wickets.  With conditions in England set to favour swing, Jayed can make a mark in the global event. In another big decision, Bangladesh have recalled middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain, who last played for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup in September 2018. As expected, veteran pacer Mashrafe Mortaza will lead the team in England.

Bangladesh had several injury concerns before the World Cup announcement. The biggest of the lot was the ligament injury of their star player Mahmudullah. The middle-order batsman had picked up a ligament injury during the tour of New Zealand last month. Left-arm fast-bowler Mustafizur Rahman had also tweaked his ankle while playing in Dhaka Premier League. In addition, Rubel Hussain was suffering with a side strain too.

However,  all the three made it to the squad along with seniors like Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal who too had some injury concerns. The World Cup will kickstart on May 30 with hosts England taking on South Africa in the tournament-opener at the Oval. Bangladesh will open their campaign against South Africa on June 2.
