ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Twins will retire Joe Mauer’s No. 7 jersey next season, shifting swiftly with to honor the six-time All-Star who retired after a 15-year main league profession.
The Twins stunned Mauer with the announcement whereas he was being celebrated at an all-student meeting at his alma mater Cretin-Derham Corridor Excessive College on Tuesday.
Mauer will develop into the eighth former Twins participant or supervisor with a retired quantity, becoming a member of Harmon Killebrew (three), Rod Carew (29), Tony Oliva (6), Kent Hrbek (14), Kirby Puckett (34), Bert Blyleven (28) and Tom Kelly (10). Jackie Robinson (42) has had his quantity retired by all main league groups.
Oliva, Hrbek, Blyleven and Kelly entered the gymnasium in the course of the ceremony. Hrbek took the rostrum and turned to Mauer to reveal the information.
